A 70 m2 apartment very well used

Germán Saiz

When the meters are not too many - this house is barely 70 m² -, multiplying the feeling of space is not an easy task. But in this Madrid apartment, located in the center and near the Retiro Park, it was achieved masterfully after a comprehensive reform of the same and a careful and refined decoration.
NEW DISTRIBUTION
The open and clear spaces created after the reform are one of the keys to success. The new distribution is based on the elimination of corridors and the creation of a common central area where the living room is located and, separated only by a bar that also serves as an office, the kitchen. And on each side, two almost twin bedrooms with their respective integrated bathrooms. A very important and striking detail is that the doors that separate them are sliding and recessed, which not only makes the rooms lighter visually, but also frees meters. And for the same purpose, in two of the cabinets the doors were replaced by simple white curtains of canvas.
LIGHT WAS ALSO WON
In the living room a large window was installed running through which a lot of natural light passes, a fundamental premise to increase the feeling of space. To enhance it, ceilings and walls were painted in white and textiles were chosen in this same color or raw. In addition, the contrast with the floor - a wooden platform that was painted black gloss - further highlights the luminosity and gives personality to the house. This play of colors is also repeated in the kitchen, where white furniture and black countertop contrast, and in the bathroom.
THE DECORATION: WARM
To subtract the coldness of this two-color combination, the owners of the apartment furnished it with pieces of wood, many of them bought in antique dealers and street markets, which provide a warm and cozy touch, something essential for the tenants of this apartment that rents the Ivory Escapes company, feel comfortable.
